The Town of Paradise is continuing with a strong growth trend, provincially and nationally, according to the 2016 census data released February 8, 2017.
Since 2011 (the last census), the Town’s population grew by 20.9 percent. The population of Paradise in 2011 was 17,695 and in 2016 it was 21,389; an increase of just about 3,700. This is a significant population growth for a municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador; St. John’s CMA had a population growth of 4.6 percent and the provincial population growth was one percent.
“It is exciting to be experiencing this strong growth, and to be one of the fastest growing municipalities in the province,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett. “As Mayor my focus is ensuring we have the right programs and services for our population and that we can meet the needs of our growing population.”
According to the 2016 data, the Town of Paradise is now the fourth largest municipality in Newfoundland and Labrador. (St. John’s remains the largest with the Town of Conception Bay South and the City of Mount Pearl placing second and third respectively.) The Town is also among the fastest growing in the country, ranking 21st in terms of population growth.
“We are proud of our growth in the Town of Paradise. It shows that people are moving to Paradise because they want to live in our community,” said Mayor Bobbett.
“This census data and the recent CMA research are giving us a clear picture of our population and that we are meeting the needs of our population in terms of services and programs,” concluded the Mayor.
