The Town of Paradise was honoured to receive the Bridging the Gap Award for 2016 from Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador (RNL). Mayor Dan Bobbett and Town recreation staff accepted the award at the recent RNL awards gala. The Award “recognizes an individual, group, program or facility that has furthered the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the area of recreation, sport and active living.”
The Town was nominated for the award by Easter Seals in recognition of its accessibility and inclusiveness efforts, in particular for the design of the Paradise Double Ice Complex. The year-old facility is fully-accessible, including both NHL-sized ice surfaces which fully accommodate sledge hockey, with appropriate benches and ice access from the sidelines.
“In the Town of Paradise, we recognize that we must always stay focused on inclusion and accessibility, and to work to improve and enhance our programs, services, and facilities to meet the needs of everyone,” said Mayor Dan Bobbett. “We thank Easter Seals for nominating the Town for the Bridging the Gap award, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with them to further the accessibility of the Town of Paradise.”
