Today, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) held the grand opening of the new Fire Station No. 8 in the Town of Paradise. Fire Chief Jerry Peach and Paradise Mayor Dan Bobbett were joined by St. John’s Mayor Dennis O’Keefe, Mount Pearl Mayor Randy Simms and others for the ceremony.
“It is a proud day for the Town of Paradise to officially open Paradise Fire Station No. 8,” said Mayor Bobbett. “Our Town receives great fire and emergency response service from the St. John’s Regional Fire Department, and those services are now further enhanced for residents with a dedicated station operational in Paradise.”
The SJRFD Honour Guard completed a Parade of Flags from the Paradise Town Hall to Fire Station No. 8 to start the ceremony. Thomas Tippett, a student from Paradise was “Honour Guard Commander for a Day” for the flag march. He was selected during a contest as part of the Town’s 2016 Municipal Awareness Days.
“Fire Station No. 8 is a welcome and needed addition to the network of infrastructure that we rely on to ensure public safety,” said Fire Chief Jerry Peach. “Having a station situated in Paradise vastly improves our ability to bring timely assistance to residents in the region.”
SJRFD is responsible for providing the region with an acceptable level of fire and emergency protection in the most economical manner, with backup emergency services being provided to a number of surrounding towns in the Northeast Avalon Region. Paradise Fire Station No. 8 is equipped with Engine 8 and Tanker 8, and a staff complement of 17 firefighters.
"Congratulations to the residents of Paradise, Mayor Bobbett and council on the grand opening of Fire Station No. 8," said Mayor Dennis O'Keefe. "Fire protection throughout the Northeast Avalon region is now enhanced with this latest addition to the St. John's Regional Fire Department."
Built upon a strong foundation of excellence in fire service delivery, the Town of Paradise and the entire compliment of the SJRFD continues to work toward improving capability and capacity to enhance service to the region.

The official opening of Fire Station No. 8 will continue on Saturday, October 29 with a public open house. Residents are invited to tour the new facility, view the equipment, and engage with the stations dedicated staff. The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
